I hope everyone is having a wonderful and safe holiday season. This year has certainly been an interesting one with the never-ending issues surrounding Corvid-19 and politics. God, I hope 2021 is a better year!
Despite the Corvid-19 issues, our chapter had a fairly successful year. We raised $3,000 for our two charities — The Gary Sinise Foundation and St Jude Children’s Hospital. Much of this was done through an online charity drive since we couldn’t gather in person.
We did better than many chapters as we were able to hold our two usual judging events (Wake Forest and Greenville), a tech session in January, a tour of the Holman and Moody shop in November and our Christmas party in December. Additionally, several of our members participated in the several online judging schools offered by other chapters.
We are finishing the year with 138 members, and the chapter is financially solid with over $16,000 in the bank.
The Florida Regional has been cancelled due to Corvid concerns. Although Corvid-19 may thwart our initial plans for 2021, your BOD has been working to fill in the schedule. We still have many holes, and your help is needed.
So far this is what is planned:
January judging school at Chip’s place in Clover, SC
February judging school at Jimmy Gregg’s in Indian Land, SC
March spring judging event at Hendrick Motorsports and board meeting
May tech session at the Kennedys’ Summer TBD 25th anniversary event – TBD
September fall judging event and annual meeting, Banner Elk, NC
Christmas party Paul Meyer’s home in Waxhaw, NC
Chapter leaders still need input from members for needed technical sessions, social events (especially the 25th anniversary one), and a road tour. If you can volunteer to host or plan an event, please contact me or one of the BOD members.
Bob Bubbis has been working on the documentary about the role NCRS had in creating the National Corvette Museum. Work has been slower than projected due to Corvid-19 issues. The chapter is still on board as part of the effort's steering committee.
Breaking News: If you didn’t see the article on the front page, the Carolinas Chapter will be hosting a Regional May 18-20, 2022, at the Greenville Convention Center (yup, same place as the 2018 regional and 2019 national). The National BOD approved our proposal at its December meeting. So now the fun and work begin. If you want to volunteer for a leadership or worker role, please let me know. It is only 18 months away!
Again, I wish you had a very Merry Christmas and a Great New Year. Please do stay healthy and safe.
