The year has flown by. Christmas is but eight weeks away and then the New Year. Yikes! This year’s fall judging event in Wilkesboro was successful in that those who attended had a good time. Fred accelerated judging so several sections were done on Friday, thus allowing judging to be mostly completed before Saturday’s rain arrived. I thank Reba for arranging the tour of the train museum and thanks to Reba and Janet for taking care of the food. The fall event was also a disappointment in that we had very few members and cars at the event. These events take a lot of time and effort to plan. Maybe the location has gotten stale. Your BOD is open to suggestions for next fall’s event. Do you know a place that offers something of interest, has a good parking area for car judging, and a meeting room that holds 40 for the annual meeting and banquet? If so, let me or someone on the BOD know. Jimmy Gregg has organized a judging school to be held at his garage in Ft. Mill on Saturday, October 29. The subject is judging wheels and tires. The chapter’s annual Christmas party is at Janet and Harold Kennedy’s home in Grey Court, SC, on Saturday, December 10, 11 AM to 3 PM. I hope to see everyone there. Bring a new unwrapped toy for the Toys-for-Tots donation. Our first event in 2023 will be a judging school in Morrisville (just out of Raleigh) at Ed Harbour’s house, February 4. The subject is differences in judging Bowtie cars. Ed’s 1968 Bowtie coupe will be the working model. Our spring judging event will be at the Hendrick Motorsports facility, Concord, NC, March 10 -11, 2023. A block of rooms is available nearby, and a registration form with info is in this issue. We are hoping to schedule a tour of Mr. Hendrick’s museum. Officers for 2023 were elected at the annual meeting. They are the same as this year except for Steven Heck and Kirk Turner swapping jobs. Steven will be the new treasurer and Kirk will take over as secretary. As your BOD continues to work on events for 2023, we need your help. We need hosts and locations for judging schools, road tours, social events, and judging events. If you think of an idea or have a hands-on project that you need help with, please contact me or a member of the BOD. Some of you may remember that back in 2019, the chapter gave money to the National Corvette Museum so the NCM could produce a 40-minute video about NCRS’s role in the founding of the museum. The video was to be completed in 2021. However, due to numerous reasons, Covid-19, people being promoted, etc., etc., the video still hasn’t been produced. Some oral histories have been recorded, but as far as we can tell no significant work has been completed. After a recommendation by the CC BOD and discussions with both NCRS President Shannon Urton and Sharon Brawner, NCM CEO and President, the museum has, upon our request, refunded the donation. All parties agree that something must be done to capture the part that NCRS had in the museum’s formation while the involved people are living. NCM indicated to me that they will get back with a plan. At that time, the chapter BOD will decide if and how we should go forward in participating in the history preservation project.
