The year has flown by. September is already here! Yikes!
While the National Convention in Mobile may not have been a financial success, for those attending it was great fun and for the Carolinas Chapter it was a winner. Lots of great awards and accolades were received. Especially noteworthy are these major honors: Dave Barrett’s Hill Award, Tommy Loftin’s Duntov Award, Ed Harbor’s Bowtie Award, and James Groome’s 3-Star Award. See photos in this issue. The convention was unconventional in that several chapter members, as well as many others, contracted Covid-19. Most were mild cases and members recovered quickly.
I want to thank Steven Heck for organizing a road tour to the 12 Spies Winery, Rabun Gap, GA, on August 27. As of this writing we have seven Corvettes and 18 family members registered.
The next exciting event for the chapter is the fall judging and annual meeting in Wilkesboro on September 9-10, which is a 5-point judging event. At this time, there are two cars for Flight judging, one for display, and six Sportsman entries. Fourteen members have registered. Saturday afternoon we are scheduled to visit the local toy train museum. The banquet, awards, and annual meeting will be on Saturday evening.
Jimmy Gregg has organized a judging school to be held at his garage on Saturday, October 29. The subject is wheels and tires and how they are judged. Information is on page 22.
The chapter’s annual Christmas party will be at Janet and Harold Kennedy’s home in Grey Court, SC, on Saturday, December 10, with an open house from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. Bring a gift for Toys for Tots.
Our spring judging event will be at Hendrick Motorsports, Concord, NC, on March 10 -11, 2023.
At the annual meeting on Saturday, September 10, we will elect officers for the upcoming year. If you want to run or nominate someone for an office, let Ray Culbertson know. Due to the lack of volunteers, I have decided to run for one more and final term as chairman. The complete officer slate is on page 9. Nominations may be may until noon on the tenth.
As your BOD starts working on events for 2023 we need your help. We need hosts and locations for judging schools, road tours, social events, tech sessions, and judging events. If you have an idea or have a project that you need help with, please contact me or a member of the BOD.
