Goodbye, Summer

Summer is gone and fall is upon us, although Mother Nature doesn’t seem to know that based on the temperature outside. The arrival of fall is also that time of year that the chapter has its annual meeting and election of officers. Ray Culbertson, head of the nomination committee, has reported that we potentially have a very big problem – no one has stepped forward to be next year’s chairman. This is an important office and one needed for the chapter to continue. The chapter had great participation at this year’s national convention with 25 families and 40 individuals in attendance. Additionally chapter members drove 11 Corvettes to the event. Several members received awards and most judged. Photos are later in this issue. Steven Heck and I had a meeting at the National Corvette Museum to discuss what will be done with the oral histories that have been collected regarding NCRS’s role in forming the NCM. They are going to send us a proposal. However, when we walked out of the meeting, neither Steven nor I had a warm fuzzy feeling. Thanks to Kirk Turner, the August 5 road tour northward into southwestern Virginia, was well planned and very successful without a hint of rain. Eight Corvettes made the trip with 15 people and one tri-colored Cavalier King Charles Spaniel, aka Gracie. Kirk’s assistant Jill did a great job with the food. Thanks, Jill. At this time, we have five Flight cars and 26 members registered for the fall judging event at the Holiday Inn East, Asheville. If you want to join the group, register NOW!

At a social event November 4, Jimmy Gregg will be leading the discussion about Garry Barnes’s recently acquired 1967. This car is believed to be fairly original and Jimmy will discuss how to identify original parts and whether or not this car is a potential Star/Bowtie candidate. Next year will be here before you know it. As such, your board of directors will start planning for next year after the annual meeting. If you want to host an event, know of some place we should be visiting, etc. please let me know so we can plan accordingly.

As always, drive safely and remember it is best to keep the shiny side up and the dirty side down.
